An India business e-Visa rejection usually does not happen because the applicant is a bad traveler. It happens because the file does not prove a clean, believable business purpose. The officer sees a weak invitation letter, a mismatch between employer and host details, a vague itinerary, or a photo/passport upload that does not meet the technical standard.
This guide is built for founders, sales teams, consultants, investors, conference visitors, procurement teams, and employees travelling to India for meetings. Use it as a pre-submission checklist before you apply.
1. Weak Invitation Letter from the Indian Company
A business invitation should look like a real business document. It should include the Indian company's legal name, address, contact person, phone/email, your full passport name, your company, travel dates, meeting purpose, and who is responsible for local arrangements. A generic one-line invite is a red flag.
2. Wrong Visa Category
Business meetings, trade discussions, vendor audits, commercial negotiations, and industry events should not be filed as tourism. A tourist application that mentions meetings with suppliers or clients can be refused because the declared purpose does not match the visa type.
3. Employment or Paid Work Confusion
An e-Business Visa is not an employment visa. If the application suggests that you will work for an Indian company, take a local salary, manage daily operations inside India, or perform long-term on-site duties, the file may be rejected or redirected to a different visa category.
4. Passport Details Do Not Match Exactly
Your given names, surname, date of birth, passport number, issue date, and expiry date must match the passport bio page exactly. Business travelers often rush this step and lose days because one digit or name order is wrong.
5. Poor Passport Scan or Photo
A cropped passport scan, glare, shadows, tiny text, a non-square photo, or a background that is not plain can trigger rejection or correction. The official portal asks for a clear passport bio page and a compliant photo; do not treat uploads as a formality.
6. Vague Business Purpose
"Business visit" is not enough. Better wording explains the commercial reason: meetings with a named supplier, contract discussion, site inspection, board meeting, trade fair attendance, machinery installation discussion, or investment due diligence.
7. Host Details and Hotel Details Conflict
If the invitation says Mumbai meetings but the form shows only Delhi hotels, the file feels unfinished. Business travel can include multiple cities, but the itinerary should make sense.
8. Company Email Looks Unprofessional
A Gmail invite may be accepted in some cases, but a company-domain email, website, letterhead, GST/CIN details where available, and a real signature strengthen the application. Search engines are not the only systems that reward trust signals; visa files do too.
9. Previous India Visa Problems Are Hidden
If you previously overstayed, were refused, or had a cancelled visa, do not guess your way through the form. Inconsistent answers create more risk than a properly explained history.
