The e-Tourist Visa is a sub-category of the Indian e-Visa program designed for non-commercial visits. It allows for multiple entries (except the 30-day version) and is linked electronically to the traveler's passport. It is valid for arrival at designated international airports and seaports.
Travelers whose sole objective is tourism, recreation, casual visits to meet friends or relatives, or attending short-term yoga programs should apply. It is not suitable for those seeking employment, long-term residence, or those intending to visit restricted or cantonment areas without special permits. Holders of diplomatic or official passports are not eligible.
There are three durations available: a 30-day double-entry visa (valid from date of arrival), a 1-year multiple-entry visa, and a 5-year multiple-entry visa. For most nationalities, a continuous stay during each visit is permitted for up to 90 days. However, citizens of the USA, UK, Canada, and Japan are permitted continuous stays of up to 180 days per visit.
Basic requirements include a high-quality digital scan of the passport bio-page (showing the machine-readable zone) and a recent square photograph with a white background. Passports must have at least six months of validity remaining from the arrival date and contain at least two blank pages.
