India e-Visa for Dutch Citizens: Fees, Documents and Name Rules

Copy the surname exactly as it appears in the machine-readable zone, the two lines of characters at the bottom of the passport photo page. Spaces show there as the < symbol, so Sanne van der Berg appears as VAN<DER<BERG; on the form you enter VAN DER BERG. Leaving out the prefix is the most common reason the name on a Dutch e-Visa does not match the passport.

For a Dutch passport the government fees are: 30-day e-Tourist $10 for arrivals from April to June and $25 for the rest of the year; 1-year e-Tourist $40; 5-year e-Tourist $200; e-Business $120; e-Medical $80. A 3% bank charge is added to each. Belgian passports pay the same.

• Up to 30 days of tourism: the 30-day e-Tourist visa.
• Several trips a year or up to 90 days per visit: the 1-year e-Tourist visa ($40).
• Frequent travel over several years: the 5-year e-Tourist visa ($200).
• Meetings, trade fairs or technical work: the e-Business visa ($120).

Only travellers who cannot use the e-Visa, for example for employment or long study, apply for a regular visa through the Embassy of India in The Hague.

You need an ordinary Dutch passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival, with 2 blank pages. The Dutch identity card (ID-kaart) is not accepted for India. The e-Visa follows the passport, so Dutch citizens living in Belgium, Germany or elsewhere apply the same way.

Apply at least 4 days before arrival; most complete applications are decided within 24–72 hours. Leave more time in the October–March peak season.

Government of India e-Visa fees for Netherlands passport holders: 30-day e-Tourist US$10 for arrivals April–June and US$25 for arrivals July–March; 1-year e-Tourist US$40; 5-year e-Tourist US$200; e-Business US$120; e-Medical US$80. A 3% bank charge is added to each fee. Standard EU fee tiers apply for Dutch citizens. The 1-year and 5-year multiple entry options provide the best value for frequent travelers.

Dutch applicants are most often held up by:

• Leaving out the surname prefix. "van", "de" or "van der" is part of the surname; enter it as shown in the machine-readable zone at the bottom of the photo page.
• Entering a partner's surname that the passport shows next to your own. Use the surname from the machine-readable zone.
• Typing the BSN (citizen service number) in the passport number field.
• Entering only the first given name when the passport lists several. Enter all of them.
• Applying fewer than 4 days before the flight. Most complete applications are decided within 24–72 hours, but that is not guaranteed.
• Choosing the 30-day e-Tourist visa for a trip that includes business meetings. Any business activity needs the e-Business visa.
