India e-Visa for Spanish Citizens: Fees, Documents and Name Rules

Put both surnames in the Surname field, in the same order as in the passport, and all your given names in the Given Name field. Check them against the machine-readable zone, the two lines at the bottom of the photo page: José Núñez García appears there as NUNEZ<GARCIA and JOSE (spaces show as <), so you type NUNEZ GARCIA as the surname and JOSE as the given name.

For a Spanish passport the government fees are: 30-day e-Tourist $10 for arrivals from April to June and $25 for the rest of the year; 1-year e-Tourist $40; 5-year e-Tourist $200; e-Business $120; e-Medical $80. A 3% bank charge is added to each. Spanish speakers from Latin America pay their own country's fees; Argentina and Uruguay, for example, pay no government fee.

• Up to 30 days of tourism: the 30-day e-Tourist visa.
• More than one trip in a year, or up to 90 days per visit: the 1-year e-Tourist visa ($40).
• Regular visits for several years: the 5-year e-Tourist visa ($200).
• Meetings, trade fairs or client visits: the e-Business visa ($120).

Only travellers who cannot use the e-Visa, for example for employment or long study, need a regular visa through the Embassy of India in Madrid.

You need an ordinary Spanish passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival, with 2 blank pages. The Spanish DNI is not accepted for travel to India, and the passport number is not your DNI number. The e-Visa follows the passport, so Spaniards living elsewhere apply the same way.

Apply at least 4 days before arrival; most complete applications are decided within 24–72 hours. In the October–March high season, apply earlier.

Spanish applicants are most often held up by:

• Entering only the first surname. Both surnames go in the Surname field, in the order printed in the passport.
• Typing Ñ or accents. The form accepts only A–Z; copy the spelling from the machine-readable zone at the bottom of the photo page (Ñ appears as N).
• Entering the DNI number in the passport number field.
• Splitting a compound first name such as María José across fields. Put all given names in the Given Name field.
• Applying fewer than 4 days before the flight. Most complete applications are decided within 24–72 hours, but that is not guaranteed.
• Choosing the 30-day e-Tourist visa for a trip that includes business meetings. Any business activity needs the e-Business visa.
