India e-Visa Guide for Toronto and Greater Toronto Area Residents

The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) — particularly Brampton and Mississauga — has over 500,000 people of Indian origin. If you hold an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card, you do NOT need an e-Visa and can enter India freely. This guide applies to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are NOT OCI cardholders. If you are unsure whether you qualify for OCI, contact the High Commission of India in Ottawa or the Consulate General in Toronto.

The Consulate General of India is located at 365 Bloor Street East, Toronto. They handle OCI applications, PIO cards, sticker visas for certain categories, and passport services. For the e-Visa, you do NOT need to visit this office. The e-Visa is a separate digital system and does not require any physical application or interview.

Toronto Pearson International (YYZ) is the main departure hub. Key routes: Toronto → Delhi (Air India: ~14h, direct), Toronto → Mumbai (Air Canada/Air India: ~15h), Toronto → Amritsar (Air India: via Delhi). Air India operates direct Toronto-Delhi flights multiple times weekly. Apply for your e-Visa at least 7 days before departure for optimal results.

After a temporary suspension in 2023 due to diplomatic tensions, India fully restored e-Visa services for Canadian citizens. All Canadian passport holders can now apply for Tourist, Business, and Medical e-Visas through our portal. Processing times are the same as other nationalities: 72–96 hours.
